Australia is divided into six states and two territories. Each, with the exception of the Australian Capital Territory has it's own State or Territory Government and collectively Australia has a Federal Government. The six states are Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, Tasmania, Western Australia and South Australia. The two territories are the Northern Territory and the Australian Capital Territory. For tourism and travelling purposes these States do not contain any individual borders but they do offer a unique division of Australia's tourist attractions and experiences. New South Wales and it's state capital of Sydney has always been a must see for visitors to Australia with the world famous Sydney Opera House, Sydney Harbour Bridge, Bondi Beach, Darling Harbour and stunning city views from the Centrepoint Tower. North of New South Wales is Queensland which is recognised for such tourism attractions as the Great Barrier Reef, the Gold Coast beaches, tropical forests and the northern most point in Australia. In the south eastern corner of Australia is Victoria, state which offers historic gold mining towns with an insight to life as it was during the colonial period. Whilst holidaying in Australia also discover the amazing coast line of Victoria and internationally recognised sites such as the Twelve Apostles. South Australia is dominated by it's capital of Adelaide and offers easy access to many quaint villages, wine making regions and of course the very special Kangaroo Island.
Western Australia is the countries largest state and occupies the entire western coast of Australia. It is amazingly diverse in it's geological attractions, beaches, wine regions, national parks, reefs and forests. The Northern Territory is Australia's most sparsely populated region but features such iconic Australian tourism destinations as Darwin, Kakadu National Park, Katherine Gorge, Uluru, Kings Canyon and Arnhem Land. The only Australian State detatched from the mainland is Tasmania which offers an amazing joiney through small friendly towns, awesome mountains and a relaxing step away from the often frenetic pace of the mainland. The Australian Capital Territory is the administrative centre of Australia and is home to amazing museums, galleries and the Federal Parliment building. |
